The Symbol In Chemistry - Is The R Just A R?
The Symbol In Chemistry - Is The R Just A R?The m symbol in chemistry refers to molecules, polymers and polymer chains. Chemistry is an interdisciplinary field of study that explores the chemical interactions that occur within living organisms and within other elements, such as metals, oils, gases, and even water. Chemists employ the elements of science as a base for understanding the way living things function. Before they learned about the elements, scientists had some basic chemical theories on their hands. There are two primary theories to explain the behavior of a molecule, depending on the structure. Two types of structure exist, and each has its pros and cons. They are the planar and the bimolecular.Bimolecular is where two molecules interact with each other, one having a flat top and the other at a sharp angle. It can either be a single molecule or two. Planar, on the other hand, is where three molecules interact with each other, with their angles meeting at a single point.Pla nar molecules are extremely stable. They have a number of physical characteristics including being able to easily slide back and forth, rotate around a central axis, and be shaped to make it impossible for any other substance to stick to it. Bimolecular molecules, on the other hand, have more difficulty sticking to each other, but they will stick to most other substances. The m symbol in chemistry can also refer to metallo-bimolecular complexes, which are composite molecules with extra atoms that bond with other atoms. These complexions give them more complex properties than the original molecular compound. For example, copper-based metallo-bimolecular complexes can form chloramines, proteins, and fatty acids. They can also be made in large quantities and are used as catalysts, producing products such as gasoline and chlorine gas.The k symbol in chemistry refers to keychain, which is a one-carbon unit. Keychain molecules typically have a long, fat tail (that looks like a snake) that links them to other atoms. It usually has four carbon units linked together with hydrogen bonds, with hydrogen bonding usually creating the strongest bonds. The keychain can only be formed from carbon-containing compounds, and most research is focused on the quest to create molecular chains composed of only carbon. The k symbol in chemistry is sometimes used to refer to kerogen, a large ring, which contains carbon atoms. However, the k symbol is commonly used to refer to cyclic units, which are the building blocks of molecules. These compounds have one more carbon unit than keychain molecules and carbon-containing compounds, and they usually contain the carbon-oxygen atom, which makes them very unstable.Chemistry can be a very intense, lengthy and tedious process. It can be so much easier to use an online guide as a guide for learning the basic concepts of chemistry.

6 Tips for Effortless Language Learning with Foreign Movies
6 Tips for Effortless Language Learning with Foreign Movies We all love movies. And finding foreign language movies poses no problem in the modern world. Were not cavemen weve got Netflix and Redbox. That means youve probably heard all the buzz about learning a foreign language through movies. Its supposed to be ideal for learning new vocabulary in context, understanding culture and all-around supplementing our language learning in an enjoyable way.Theres just one catch. After a while, watching movies in another language can start to become a chore.Itâs happened to me a few times. My initial enthusiasm with starting a new language had passed. The first excitement that came when I began to understand some bits of movies had been replaced by irritation at all the bits I still couldnt understand. I kept trying to push myself to watch more difficult movies, but every time movie night actually came around I found myself reaching for a movie in my native English. You know what the problem was?Foreign movie night had started to become Too Much Work.I tâs no wonder that Iâd started to lose interest! For most of us, watching movies or TV shows is a reward after a long day of work. If we start to treat it like âyet more work,â then of course itâs going to become a chore. But, never fear!Iâm going to give you 6 great ways to re-engage with your foreign movie night and keep learning without it becoming a chore. 6 Tips for Effortless Language Learning with Foreign Movies1. Become âThat Annoying PersonâAre you one of âthose peopleâ who sit through a movie and give a running commentary on everything thatâs going on in the plot?If youâre not, you should be!Provide a running commentary.Providing a running commentary on a movie in your target language is a great way to get more engaged in the movie and practice your speaking at the same time. The more engaged you get, the more youâll enjoy watching the movie.Okay, so this might be controversial advice, and itâs not applicable in every situation I wouldnt recom mend you start chatting in a movie theater for example. However, most of us watch loads of movies at home. When Iâm travelling I often watch foreign movies alone on a computer. This is a great time to start chatting to the screen and getting really involved with what youâre watching. What to talk about? It might seem an odd question, but what should you say when youâre commenting on a movie?Comment on those things that interest you! The same things you would comment on in your native language.Personally, because I write short films, Iâm interested in the ânuts and boltsâ of a movie and its script. I talk about story structure and technique in English, so thatâs exactly what I talk about in my target language. I practice talking about things that interest me.Maybe you prefer to predict whatâs going to happen later in the movie? Maybe you like commenting on the characters, costumes or the actors?Whatever interests you about the movie, just say it right there when youâre watching it. Get a dialogue going with yourself. Youâll get great practice speaking about those things that really interest. The more you pay attention to details that youd like to chat about, the more youll be getting engaged in the movie. How to avoid annoying othersPeople talk throughout movies more than you might realize. When youâre watching movies with friends youâll often find that people add their own comments. Itâs a communal act! However, in case youâre bothered about annoying people, these 3 tips can help:1. Save the commenting until youâre on your own. I donât always talk when watching movies with others, but when I watch movies alone I really chat a lot. It allows me to try out vocabulary, and I can always rewind if I miss something.2. Only comment on âless important movies.â If youve all been waiting for ages to watch this one special movie, donât feel like you have to talk all the way through it, just enjoy it. But, donât hold yourself back if you have a quick comment (as long as its in your target language!).3. Save all your comments for afterwards. Maybe youâre with a crowd that likes silence throughout movies. Thatâs fine. Just wait until the end and have a good chat about it.2. Quick Tip: Write ReviewsOne quick tip to get really engaged in foreign movies is to write a quick review online after youve finished, in your target language of course. It wonât take you very long (between 20 minutes and 1.5 hours depending on your level of detail) and youll develop some really useful vocabulary to talk about the movie (and others) in conversations.3. Find Familiar FacesWe often think that difficult language is what stops us understanding a foreign movie, but it itâs only half the problem. One of the most overlooked issues when watching movies in another language is the difference in âcultural background.âCultural knowledge can be much harder to acquire than linguistic knowledge. The culture that you live in currentl y or grew up in has given you a rich and varied set of life experiences. These make your view of the world different from the country in which the movie was made, even if you understand all of the vocabulary.Foreign movies often feel strange and unfamiliar because everything about the movie is new the actors, the ânormalâ home life of the characters, the locations, the type of humor, etc.Even when I watch movies from Spain, a country where Ive lived for years, I still sometimes get the feeling that âthis is not my culture,â so I dont get as involved in the movie as I would if it were in English. This challenge can make watching foreign movies quite a chore. How to connect with the countrys movie cultureThe best way to combat this cultural disconnect is to get as involved in the target culture as possible. Here are 3 tips to connect with the culture and enjoy the cultural background of movies:1. Keep your movie choices consistent. One of the quickest ways to feel familiar in the movies culture is to watch several movies with the same actors and/or director. When you start seeing lots of familiar faces or getting a familiar vibe, that feeling of cultural strangeness goes away.2. Watch movies set in your home country, or in the United States. Wherever youâre from, these days weâre all very familiar with the United States because of the far reach of Hollywood. Watching films in your target language with familiar locations is a sure way to feel connected to the cultural background of the movie.3. Watch dubbed movies from your country. Sometimes it all gets too much and you just need a ârestâ from foreign movies. Watching a dubbed movie set in your home country is a great way to feel connected to the culture of the movie, while still learning your target language.4. Original Version vs. DubbingIn general, you should be watching as many movies that are originally in your target language as possible.Original versions are better for a variety of reason s:You learn the real vocabulary in context. You get used to the rhythm of the language in a way that dubbed movies donât allow. You have the added visual stimulus of being able to read the actorâs lips, which you donât for a dubbed movie. You learn the culture as well as just the language. On the flip side, dubbed movies have some advantages:The voice actors sometimes (not always) speak more clearly than the actor on screen. The culture of the movie might be more familiar to you, especially if itâs a US import. The best advice is to âcycleâ watching dubbed movies and original versions. Get the best of both worlds.5. Pick Movies by âDifficulty CyclingâHow do you pick which movie to watch in your target language? Really, its going to vary day by day. Some days youll be thinking, âI just want to watch something easy and relax.I realized that on those days when I felt too tired to watch a film in my target language, Iâd usually reach for the English movies. They were an eas y choice for my tired mind. The thing is that when youâre learning a new language, movies in your native language will always seem an easy choice. But it doesnt have to be like that. The three types of movie difficultyThe relative âdifficultyâ of foreign language movies comes in three different flavors:1. Difficult language. The level of the language is hard for you to understand.2. Difficult cultural background. The cultural background of the movie is unfamiliar or uncomfortable to watch.3. Difficult subject. The subject matter is harrowing and/or the story is complex. When youâre picking movies in your target language, try not to make everything hard for yourself at the same time. When you want to watch something easy, only pick a film thatâs âdifficultâ in one of these categories. If youâre feeling really lazy (it happens) then pick a film thatâs easy in all of these categories, like a dubbed action film or kids animation. This way, you can watch films in your target language even when you donât feel like watching a foreign film. Not sure where to start in terms of difficulty levels? Try out FluentU. FluentU takes real-world videosâ"including clips, trailers and behind-the-scenes commentary from your favorite foreign moviesâ"and turns them into personalized language learning lessons. Its there to help you discover video content thats perfectly suited to your skill level, learning style and personal interests. You can stop browsing Netflix and YouTube for decent moviessimply hop on over to FluentU for personalized suggestions. The site will keep track of your viewing history and figure out the best routes to continual learning and improvement. The best part? Well help you learn how to actively study language through movies. While you watch your chosen content, FluentU adds your newly-encountered vocabulary to flashcards and a running vocabulary list, so you can always go back to practice even more.6. Watch âThe ClassicsâIn any lang uage there are âclassicâ movies which you have to watch. The best way to find these is to search for âtop 100 movies in (insert language here)â into Google. Youll get the best results by searching in your foreign language and reading lists on sites written in that language. Once youve track down a good list, pick a few to start with. Here are some of the great reasons you should watch the classics:1. Theyâre called âclassicâ for a reason. Youâll watch some wonderful movies.2. Each country has its own distinct movie culture. Youâll understand the movie culture in that country far more deeply than you did before.3. You can see whats popular. Youâll begin to recognise some of the best actors in that country.4. Everyone knows about them. Youâll have a sure topic of conversation when talking to someone from the country. Now that you know all the joys and rewards of watching movies in your target language, pick a few cool flicks to start with and get to learning!
What To Do In Babysitting Emergencies
What To Do In Babysitting Emergencies pexels.com Basics Letâs start with the basics. Boo-boos (small): Small issues come in all forms, but small things like bruises, cuts, scrapes, all things of that nature come with the same ending. You may have a crying child or a child who doesnât notice. If they fall and get a bruise, but you arenât there to notice it, you may have a small issue if the parent sees it before you do. Make sure your eyes are on the child at all times, although children just like adults get random bruises out of nowhere, so just paying attention is the simple solution. As for scrapes and cuts alike, make sure to keep the child calm and clean the wound. When the parents come home, fill them in on the situation. Severe Choking: Make sure you are always aware of this. Children need to sit down and eat, not be running around while chewing their food or speaking to no end and accidentally swallow a whole piece of food/whatever they are choking on. The age of the child determines how you proceed. Babies need assistance differently than older children. Infants, when choking, can be helped in two ways. You can simply reach carefully in the back of their throat and take out the hazardous item, or you do compressions on their chest with only one of two fingers. Older children are different you can revert to the Heimlich, but not too hard considering the age of the child. Broken Bones: Say you take the child to the park and they go down a slide; you look away for one second and then hear a scream or a thud. You look back to notice your child is on the ground grabbing their leg/arm. Even from far away you can see something is off about whatever limb they are holding. You run over and go through asking them what hurts and can they move it. Regardless, your best bet is to take them to the hospital. And to of course call their parents. Make sure to be clear and conscience about what happened. Most children will be hurting and may cry for an hour or two, but personally Iâve seen them recover faster than adults. Getting them ice cream for doing so well isnât a bad reward in the end. barrymoreonline.org Extreme Finally, the extremely severe situations. Running Away: Some children go through their phase of thinking the world is against them, or basically all adults are. Most children have considered running away, but have never done it and probably donât even remember thinking about it. On the other hand, there are those children that do act upon it. Ideally, most kids donât exactly go very far considering they canât get very far in the first place. A good number of children go to some place familiar, like a friends house or a park. If you notice that your child is missing, that is an extreme babysitting emergency. You need to call the parents immediately and start looking for them. Go to the place you think they might go first and then go to other places. Call the police while you are at it; though ideally the parents will probably do this before you do, do it anyway. Aside from running away, another babysitting emergency that is around the same scenario is ⦠Losing a Child: This is different from them running away, because in this scenario they arenât ârunning awayâ per se. Losing a child can happen at the park, the mall, or anywhere else where there are lots of other people around. It can happen almost as fast as blinking. The child gets distracted or even worse, you get distracted and they literally disappear within a millisecond. Look at scenario three in this article from well-known website care.com for tips on how to handle this situation. The job of babysitting is not as easy as it looks, because you personally have someone elses life in your hands. You have to make sure they are safe and cared for until their parents come home. If you can make it through these many things in the world of babysitting then potential clients will come flooding in if of course, continuing the babysitting road is what you want to do after the summer is over. Just remember, you canât know if something is going to happen, but you can always be prepared for it.

Some Calculus Help From SOURCE!
Some Calculus Help From SOURCE!In more ways than one, I have always liked the traditional Saxon algebra 1 for kids. Yet it has also been a wonderful aid to the students in imparting real learning skills. I used to make it a point to really immerse myself into the basics of mathematics before I moved on to other subjects. It had long been an obsession to me as a child to have them in my own little 'Math Book' even though they were not really meant for me personally. The problem was that I was shy and timid at first and didn't know how to ask for help. So to avoid this, I would have myself memorized all the answers to every problem in the text book even though I did not understand the answers.Once I became more confident with the math I was taught in school, I realized that there was a wealth of math I did not understand. This was then my desire to find out the answer and understand the answer. Then to discover how to help my classmates with the same basic answers to help them learn mor e, was my endeavor. I worked to prove math wrong and thus much better prepared to think like a math genius. From there, I learned algebra on my own as well as being introduced to the Saxon algebra by a teacher. My approach is to learn as much as I can about every subject so that when I am confronted with problems in math I can logically determine what the proper course of action would be. I use the subject's own language of concepts and strategies to make my own discoveries and my own discovery of math's language of symbols and concepts are the result of years of learning as well as experience. No one can do math like you can, and we all have limitations to our own abilities, but we must always strive to do better and learn from what we already have learned.I have always wanted to be sure I never lost my ability to love math and become passionate about it because it has always been something that has fascinated me. Just like reading a novel, all you do is observe and absorb informati on from it. You see, the more you learn, the better equipped you will be to perform the job your were given. It is such a joy to sit and read a good book, because you feel you can do better than the book or author. That's why I love to learn new math concepts and strategies and have a large collection of them at my fingertips. It gives me hope and inspiration for my career and for succeeding. It provides me with an opportunity to share my knowledge with others so that they can perform the same tasks I did at their age. The rewards far outweigh the price. Why not have your Saxon algebra ready when you need it.Those of us who know math the best will always need some extra help. Don't be ashamed to seek it out. Give it a try. Your life will be richer for it. Please consider all this and think on it.
3 Benefits of Tutoring for Students With Learning Differences
3 Benefits of Tutoring for Students With Learning Differences Every student is differentand so are the ways in which they learn best. As the parent of a student with special learning needs, you may be struggling to find the support and resources that will allow them to feel properly equipped for success, as well as to flourish as a student and an individual. Tutoring is one tool that parents can use to help their students with learning differences gain the academic confidence they deserve. The benefits of tutoring for students with learning differences include an individualized experience that is tailored to your childs unique learning style, the opportunity to develop greater confidence, and increased ownership over your students educational journey. Weve outlined each advantage in greater detail below. 1. Tutoring is personalized to your childs individual learning style With one-on-one learning difference tutoring, your child can learn new material or revisit prior content in a way that suits their specific learning style. After inquiring about the concepts and skills your student finds challenging, a tutor can develop a plan to address each area of concern in an individualized way. This can include integrating recommendations from your childs teacher or school, if appropriate. Because private tutoring takes place outside the classroom, your student can meet with their tutor as often as they need to, as well as whenever theyre most comfortableand tutoring allows your child to benefit from targeted instruction for a longer period of time than most schools can accommodate. In addition, online tutoring enables you to work with a tutor who has the precise expertise you need, no matter your location. Accessing a tutoring session is as simple as logging in from your home. Tutors who work with students with learning differences are also accustomed to adapting material to auditory, kinesthetic, verbal, and visual learners. Whether your child thrives when using one or multiple learning styles, their tutor can craft lessons to speak to these strengths. 2. Tutoring can instill confidence in your child Tutoring offers students with learning differences a low-pressure environment in which to practice and hone both academic and soft skills. In a one-on-one setting, your child can begin to master challenging elements like organization and time management that are as important as academic concepts as they progress through their education. Varsity Tutors can help students and their families thoughtfully connect with tutors who understand their specific goals and needs. As your childs tutor gets to know them, the tutor can offer personalized strategies and techniques that can help to simplify difficult ideas and skills. This kind of one-on-one attention can enable students to feel more confident, both in and out of the classroom. As your child grows more confident in tutoring sessions, this newfound ability will also eventually migrate to the classroom and other areas of their life (such as friendships at school). 3. Tutoring allows families to take ownership of their childs learning experience Over time, tutoring promotes positive learning habits that can help you and your child gain a sense of control over their education. For many students with learning differencesand, by extension, their familiesthe classroom and school environment can be overwhelming and frustrating. Is Arabic Hard to Learn
Is Arabic Hard to Learn Is Learning Arabic Difficult? ChaptersLet Go of Your Presuppositions Regarding ArabicObstacles in Arabic Lessons Are All RelativeJudging How Difficult It Is to Learn ArabicFor some people, the task of learning a new language with all of its corresponding grammar, spelling, conjugations, and everything else, just seems impossible. Others see learning a new language as a marvellous opportunity to learn something new and expand their horizons, as well as learning about different cultures and regions of the world. One of the main things that puts people off studying a new language is the difficulty often associated with doing so. Many people had negative experiences learning languages at school and are therefore less keen to go through that again. There is always a desire for a so-called quick fix, with some people suggesting it is possible to master Arabic in 30 days. But remember that you will need to be patient when learning this ancient language. Hard work and dedication are both the key to success when learning Ar abic.So whatâs it really like learning Arabic? Is it really that difficult to study?Donât Make Mountains Out of Molehills!Of course, the Arabic language has almost nothing in common with English; either in structure, grammar, or pronunciation. However, this shouldnât stop you from deciding to learn the language. At the beginning, youâll hit a few walls as you try to learn Arabic, but this is normal no matter what you choose to study. As long as you keep at it, what once seemed a massive challenge will eventually be completely achievable.Donât forget to study regularly for your Arabic class! If you truly immerse yourself in the language, and you give it everything you've got, many of the things that previously seemed impossible to absorb will suddenly become obvious and you'll wonder why you ever struggled. You will start to see the many benefits of studying Arabic, and your eyes will be opened to a wide range of fantastic Arabic cultures which have heavily influenced the moder n world in more ways that most people fully comprehend.Donât Forget the Small Rules!Without realizing it, we use lots of idioms and cliches in English which make it an incredibly tough language, not only to learn, but to understand and to fully utilize.Itâs a fact - native speakers are often the worst at judging the difficulty of their language. So for some people, Arabic classes could seem nice and easy, but to others they might appear horribly difficult.Pay attention to what people tell you and do some research about the Arabic language to decide if you really want to learn it. What's more, most Arabic classes are affordable.Judging How Difficult It Is to Learn ArabicWhen you think that there are over 7000 languages currently spoken in the world, including all the different dialects, it would be difficult to make a purely analytical assessment of which language is the most difficult to learn. So while some African languages have a reputation for having incredibly difficult grammar, or alembic structures, they arenât often included in the lists of the most challenging languages to learn.Throw yourself heart and soul into learning Arabic! So how can you decide if a language like Arabic is difficult or not? There are several different objective criteria that you can use to judge just how difficult it is to learn Arabic. How Long Does It Take to Learn Arabic? This is a difficult question to answer. This does not only depend on each individual person and how much time and energy they invest in to learning Arabic, but it also has to do with previous language experience, the quality of teaching and the exposure to the language outside of a learning environment. Your attitude and your motivation will also play a key role in how long it takes you to learn Arabic. However, according to the US Foreign Service Institute (FSI), Arabic is a group 4 language. Research done by the FSI suggests that it will take around 720 hours of study to reach a basic fluency level in Arabic, whereby you can talk about social situations and work requirements. This is compared to 480 hours for group 1 languages such as French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. Therefore it is highly recommended that you are committed to learning Arabic, and that you take advantage of all of the resources at your disposal and online to make sure that the process is a successful one.How Similar Is It to Your Mother Tongue?A good way to evaluate how difficult a language will be for you to learn, is to find out ho w different it is from your native language. For example, if Spanish or German seem like the easiest languages for you to learn, thatâs because they have more in common with English, especially thanks to the âvulgarâ Latin that was spoken as the official language of the Roman Empire at the dawn of the first century AD.After all, French, Spanish, and Italian are all divergent dialects which came from the same language (English is a slightly unique case because of its history of invasions, and although it has many similarities with the Romance languages, it is actually classified as Germanic.)Do all the roads lead to the Arabic language? If you speak Spanish well, there are many words that might seem familiar in Arabic, but with different intonations. This comes from the long Arab presence on the Iberian peninsula. As for French, it might seem easy for an English speaker to learn because a lot of English words actually came from French originally. However, the pronunciation is ofte n very different and can pose a challenge for French students. As you are probably now starting to see, the further from English (or a Romance or Germanic language) you go, the more difficult the language will seem, and youâll face more challenges as the language youâre studying seems to have less in common with English. Are the Sounds Similar? If two languages have similar sounds, learning to speak a new language will often seem slightly easier. But in Arabic, it is difficult to find any similar vowel or word sounds to English. If you asked a native Arabic speaker to pronounce the difference between âinâ âonâ and âanâ, would they hear a difference?According to one study, Italian is considered to be the most beautiful European language, but that might be because most of the sounds in Italian are also present in other European languages, to various degrees. It is this sense of familiarity which makes us think that Italian is a beautiful and easy language to learn. With the A rabic language, itâs more difficult to find similarities in the sounds and pronunciations, especially since vowels are barely pronounced in the language.Even though the Arabic alphabet has a somewhat familiar 28 letters, none of them resemble what we tend to use in America or Europe. Not to mention that the shape of each letter changes depending on where itâs placed in the word. From this point of view, alas, it seems a given that learning Arabic will be more difficult for English speakers than for students who are coming from other languages.Complex Grammar StructuresArabic is spoken by more than 400 million people worldwide. However, there are many different variations on Arabic, especially between the written (literary Arabic) and spoken (dialect) forms. It isn't necessary to learn literary Arabic if you want to speak Arabic, but itâs a very good place to start if you want to learn the structure of the language well and avoid any bad linguistic habits.Spoken Arabic, on the oth er hand, is something quite different. Essentially, each Arabic speaking country has developed its own local dialect, with its own unique vocabulary, expressions, and grammar. If you live in Morocco, it isnât a given that youâll be able to understand Tunisian or Egyptian Arabic, or even that will understand someone from the United Arab Emirates. You should think about which Arabic dialect you want to learn to speak, and make sure you find the right teacher and resources to learn the type of Arabic that you want to.You will surely find the right teacher for your Arabic lessons London on Superprof!A Confusing ScriptMost Western languages use the Latin alphabet, and it is easy to recognize all the different letters that make up the English alphabet. This is another challenging aspect about Arabic - there are 28 letters in the Arabic alphabet, but their forms all change depending on where the words fall in the sentence.Learn to decode the Arabic alphabet! You might see the same letter a t the beginning, end, or in the middle of a word, each time with a completely different meaning.Youâll also have to learn to stop reading from left to right, and begin reading in the opposite direction - but this is a hard habit to break for a native English speaker! The 3 Unknown SoundsFinally, pronunciation and reading pose one of the big challenges to learning Arabic - there are 3 sounds in Arabic which donât exist in most Western languages, and are written with the numbers 3, 7, and 9.These sounds donât exist at all in English and therefore mastering them can be somewhat tricky. But what are they? How Personal Brand and Your Career Goals Connect in Order to be Successful - Introvert Whisperer
Introvert Whisperer / How Personal Brand and Your Career Goals Connect in Order to be Successful - Introvert Whisperer How Personal Brand and Your Career Goals Connect in Order to be Successful For the Twitter-minded, who like their quick hits, hereâs the moral to this story: Your career is only going to go as far as your Personal Brand. Thatâs right. Your career goals and whether or not you achieve them and when you achieve them are completely driven by your Personal Brand. I donât think many people really think of their Personal Brand as being such an impactful thing. Let me explain a few things about Personal Brand: Your Personal Brand is how you are perceived. Itâs not about how you THINK you are, itâs about how others experience you. If those around you (especially decision-makers and management) donât âseeâ you as X, then guess what? You arenât going to be X. You create your Personal Brand by what you do. Simple concept. You might be a marketing who that just happens to geek out on making Excel spreadsheets for everyone. Youâve created a Personal Brand with both things: A Marketing-Excel God. Not bad unless you want to be a Corporate Lawyer. You can shape and re-shape your Personal Brand throughout your career. Rarely does anyone stay in 1 profession anymore. As we zig-zag our way through our career, we have to redefine what we focus on, talk about and do (our behavior) to go with each change. If we didnât, there would be no zag to the zig. Weâd be going nowhere. Your Personal Brand isnât just one thing. You are one full recipe of a number of characteristics and attributes. Itâs that combination of things that makes you completely unique. The question is: does that recipe reflect the career of your choice? If not, youâve got changes to be making. You may not be that perceptive. Not only can be our own worst critics, we are often not very objective when figuring out how we come across to others. Iâve known of people who thought they were a darling but most people think of them as a jerk or wonky. If youâre out of sync between your perception and reality, thatâs the reason you arenât getting traction in your career. You need feedback on how youâre perceived and then you need to really listen to it. You have to perform. With all of this discussion about Personal Branding, at the heart of your Personal Brand is whether or not you are barely scraping by in your job or the resident rock star. You want to think of your job performance as the foundation of your Personal Brand. If you arenât performing well, that is your Personal Brand. You can try to behave as a resident rock star, but you arenât one if you canât perform. Consider that your first step in Personal Branding if youâre sputtering. Think one step ahead. You always need to be thinking about what your next career step or progression is. You then need to be branding to that next step before you get there or you wonât get there. The President of the US doesnât start acting like a President after the election. They begin branding as a President long before campaigning starts and if they donât, poof goes that job potential. Is your Personal Brand adequately reflecting your career goal? If itâs not, the good news is you can reshape it to help you pave the way to success.
